Description Hericium erinaceus is a interesting mushroom which has a very short and firm stipe, from which long spines emerge. The whole mushroom can be more than 25 centimeters wide. The spines are relatively thich, elastic and white when young. The spines in older specimens are yellow colored. The flesh is white, thick but also fragile. It has a mild and pleasant smell, while the taste is almost sweet. The spore print has a yellow coloration.
